Hartland’s Medical and Dental Hypnosis is a classic book in the profession of hypnosis, exploring what can be achieved when you have somebody hypnotized. The book, written by Michael Heap and Kottiyattil Aravind, highlights some of the work from one of the unsung pioneers of hypnotic change work, Dr. John Hartand. John lived from 1901 to 1977, working as a British Psychiatrist and was involved with the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis. He integrated his work with multiple modalities such as medicine, psychiatry, and hypnosis. Dr. Hartland is well known for his work on ego-strengthening and the direct suggestions you can use inside your work to advance even advanced strategies further. As I record the last show for the Work Smart Hypnosis Podcast from an empty office in Virginia, I reflect back on how my story has unfolded. From beginning my journey as a stage hypnotist to seeing clients and opening my own practice to launching the podcast, speaking at conferences, and teaching students - my career has been filled with many successes, failures, and pivots. When people begin training in hypnosis, they learn certain methodologies and how to do things in a specific way. Students in hypnotherapy are taught that ‘this’ technique is good, and ‘that’ technique is bad. This approach works well as a good confidence-builder in the beginning stages of a career in hypnosis; however, it can create a mindset of absolutes, and believing that there is only one way to do things becomes a sticking point later. Students, and those already trained and certified in another school of thought, must recognize this and consider whether they need to unlearn some things to become more flexible and scale their business.

She took charge of her own independence and education at an early age to form a career helping others. She previously worked as a Behavioral Change Specialist. Nanci has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education with a minor in Psychology from Long Island University and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Lesley University.

Chantelle grew up in a homeschool cult and church cult and later created a group for cult-leavers to share their experiences and begin the healing process.

Funny story. Richard Nongard and I were on a call together talking about hypnosis. Like you do. And the topic got so good, we stopped everything, and recorded this week’s episode.
How can you live hypnotically? What does it mean to stop DOING HYPNOSIS and instead BE HYPNOTIC. We discuss hypnosis without the premise of a direct hypnotic application and explore the side effects that go beyond the personal change aspect of the work. We highlight how many people go into hypnosis without the preposition of becoming a hypnotherapist and how hypnotic communication allows you to become your own best spokesperson for what you do. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of business owners to rethink their strategies and pivot their standard ways of conducting business. The same is true for the hypnosis community. How do we, as hypnosis professionals, continue to serve our clients, provide them with optimal service, and support them through their journey of positive change? Many have decided to pivot to offer online hypnosis sessions, but struggle to shift their in-person techniques to accommodate an online setting.
In today’s episode, I share several strategies you can use for your online hypnosis sessions. I discuss how to adjust the strategies you would normally use in in-person sessions, like setting client expectations, and how they can help your clients achieve the results they desire. I explain why it’s important to make the online hypnosis session as effortless and easy as possible for your clients. I also share how to create the classic induction moment for your clients while working virtually and highlight why I choose to turn the video feed off once an online session has begun.

Barry Neale joins me today to share why it is essential to gather knowledge through good education, a continuation of training, and by putting your hypnosis skills to use. Barry shares insights into how to break out of the perpetual student role to be a professional student while helping others and doing the professional work of hypnosis. He shares the strategies and conversational influence factors necessary in helping someone stop smoking, and why you need to reinforce that the hypnotic process is one part of a bigger system. He describes how he stacks expectations and shifts perspectives through reinforcement, as soon as the session is over. Barry also shares the advantages of putting more value on the work you do, increasing value to the client and the amount of value you receive back.
Barry is a Certified Trainer of Hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming and the Founder of Hypnosis Essex, where he helps clients stop smoking, overcome trauma, conquer pain, and beat anxiety. He has been studying hypnosis for 40 years and training for 25 years in Accelerated Change Techniques. He became interested in hypnosis at the age of 13 and learned some of the basics from his grandfather as well as by transcribing self-help hypnosis cassettes to learn inductions. Barry started his career working for the Ford Motor Company before working in sales roles in the 80s once again sparked his interest in NLP techniques. He has since become a Master Hypnotist and has taught hundreds of students across the world.

Michele is the founder of My Trauma Coach, where she works as a trauma recovery specialist and certified hypnosis and NLP practitioner. She is a conference and event speaker, writes an award-winning blog, and has authored three books: Before the World Intruded: Conquering the Past and Creating the Future, Your Life After Trauma: Powerful Practices to Reclaim Your Identity, and Heal Your PTSD: Dynamic Strategies that Work. Michele survived something truly horrific at the age of 13 and experienced undiagnosed PTSD for 30 years. During these years, she experienced multiple body and mind conditions and underwent years of therapy. She recognized that her trauma was an addiction and found trauma release through hypnotherapy. This created a passion for writing about her experiences and ultimately led to a career in hypnosis. Michele has an MFA from the University of Vermont and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

You can build your hypnosis business by following philosophies and strategies and refining the things you do. With a new focus on what is bringing people in, you can go after what is driving your business. Building a successful hypnosis business begins by assessing what you can do to serve the client better and get the result the client wants to achieve. Some clients are more motivated than others, so, if you can gauge a client’s readiness to produce change and fit this into a business context, success will follow.
Today, I share why you should position yourself at the end of the funnel where you are the premium service. I share the funnel stages that create a system where appropriate extra steps sit in front of what you do. I discuss the progression from free content on your website to your core service, with the result that the people you speak to are those who are most motivated and ready to make a change. I also share all of the elements you should have on your website pages and how you can structure these to create a persuasive and influential cycle.

It is crucial to use strategies to serve your clients better and help them make changes in their lives. If you give your client complicated things to do, they are more likely to end up not doing them. So, straightforward strategies are more powerful because your client is more likely to make use of them. This is where self-hypnosis comes to the fore, helping people resolve issues with a new set of suggestions and ongoing strengthening of their skillset. Self-hypnosis allows your clients to reinforce the change on their own, quickly and conveniently.
Today, I share two tips for self-hypnosis and the principles and change protocols based on self-hypnosis. I discuss how intensity, repetition, and anchoring play a part in making behavioral changes and how you can use anchoring to move focus and solve the client’s problem. I share simple strategies for building client compliance and highlight the value of creating a short eight to a ten-minute recording of the change work for your client to use for self-hypnosis and strengthening the change.
